Hello SHPE Familia!
I graduated back in Spring 2017! I am originally from Los Angeles, specifically Inglewood. I decided to attend Santa Cruz because I wanted to experience something new and I was not disappointed. I joined SHPE towards the end of my second year and felt like I found my familia away from my actual family.
A fun fact about myself is I enjoy playing soccer, especially futsal.
Favorite Memory/Activity in SHPE?
SHPE Conference 2016, when Felipe rented a car and we drove from Baltimore to Washington D.C to New York all in one night. I have never traveled before that so it was very memorable.
How did SHPE contribute to your success?
SHPE helped me network with many people and gave me the confidence I needed to speak up, take on a leadership role and eventually land a job.
Any words of wisdom for incoming freshmen/transfer students?
Don't be afraid to put yourself out there. If there is a career fair or networking event coming up, attend it. If you are nervous, use it as a learning experience, especially if you are a Freshman/Sophomore. Once you are a Senior you'll know what to expect and be more confident in approaching companies or networking with professionals.
